Shoshone County is in the eastern part of the Idaho Panhandle and shares a border with Montana. Comprising of about 12,500 residents, Shoshone County’s limited population makes it the perfect place to slow down and embrace quintessential small town mountain living. Finding the perfect house to relax in, while socializing with your neighbors, is just the way life goes in communities like Kellogg, Mullan, Pinehurst, Silverton, and Wallace.
This unique region of North Idaho has a number of historical sites and buildings to discover. Spend an afternoon exploring the streets of Wallace and learn about the numerous mining settlements that started around the region in the mid-1800’s (before Idaho was even a state!), or go to the Silver Mine to take a tour and learn about one of the country’s greatest mining regions.
If exploring the outdoors is your thing, Shoshone County offers just as many activities as the other counties in the panhandle, with 87% of its land classified as “forest uplands”. Silver Mountain is a winter sports resort that also offers incredible activities in the summer including scenic gondola rides, bike and hiking trails, and camping areas.
With its friendly residents, sprawling scenery, outdoor activities, and rich history, it’s easy to embrace the small-town, mountain living that so many of us enjoy in North Idaho.
